This is an undergraduate course (4th Year, 1st Semester, 3 credit hours) designed to equip student teachers with essential knowledge of the English sentence, focusing on its basic constituents and how each functions to create meaning in linguistic constructions.
The course examines English syntax at the level of the clause — covering elements of clause structure (Subject, Verb, Object, Complement, Adverbial), clause patterns and types, the relationship between words, phrases, and sentences, sentence types and structures, constituent analysis using tools like tree diagrams, and sentence modifiers — with explicit application to English Language Teaching.
