The purpose of this course is to oriented students with the meaning and purpose of education in order to acquaint them with various theories and practices of teaching and learning with emphasis on the application of relevant competencies in education and community service.
EXPECTED LEARNING OUTCOMES OF THE COURSE
By the end of this course the learner should be able to:
1. Define Education, Teacher Education, Teaching and Learning, Foundations of Education, Educational Psychology, Research in Education
and Competence Based Education.
2. Outline the functions and importance of education in the society
3. Critically evaluate the domains and theories of teaching and learning.
4. Discuss the major foundations of education and applications in Kenyan education system
5. Demonstrate the practice of critical thinking and problem solving in education
6. Analyze pertinent and contemporary issues in Teacher Education
7. Apply the principles of community learning in basic education and community service-learning skills.
8. Examine the overview of General Educational Psychology
9. Explain the role of teachers in Research in Education
