Purpose of the course
This course outlines the major characteristic features used in scientific study of animals; their classification and nomenclature; architectural pattern, levels of organization and body plans of animals; evolution of body cavities, metamerism and cephalization; general characteristics and basic structural features of major invertebrate and vertebrate phyla; animal phylogeny and relationship of major phyla; adaptability of chordate plan as exemplified by modern amphibians, reptiles, aves and mammals
