Course Content

Conditions that may require habilitation and rehabilitation; Eliminating barriers persons with disabilities face in claiming their human rights; Human Rights Law and Habilitation and Rehabilitation; Education and Rehabilitation of children with special needs. Inclusive Education:

      Meaning of inclusive education

     Myths about inclusion and the education of learners with special needs,

     International Policies and Frameworks for Inclusive Education,

     National Policies for Inclusive Education,

Challenges for education of children with special needs,

Challenges in Rehabilitation of Children with special needs,

Strategies to overcome challenges for education and rehabilitation of children with special needs     

Vocational rehabilitation.


Objectives

The objectives of this course are to:

To acquaint students with knowledge and understanding of terms and concepts used in habilitation and rehabilitation, conditions that may require rehabilitation and rehabilitation techniques, and Inclusive Education

Expected Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course, the learner should be able to:

·         Define terms and concepts in habilitation and rehabilitation.

·         Describe conditions that may need rehabilitation and their etiology, characteristics and diagnosis

·         Describe human rights law and habilitation and rehabilitation

·         Discuss inclusive education

·         Describe international policies and frameworks for inclusive education

·         Outline challenges for inclusive education and rehabilitation of children with special needs

·         Describe strategies to overcome challenges for education and rehabilitation of children with special needs.
